MAUD CANISIUS
Design Associate
Maud is a Design Associate at MFLA whose approach is shaped by a lifelong connection to carefully constructed landscapes. Growing up in the Netherlands—where land, water, and design are inseparably intertwined—she developed an early appreciation for the intentional shaping of environments.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from Wageningen University, where she cultivated a strong foundation in systems thinking. She later earned a Master of Arts from Bauhaus University in Germany, expanding her perspective to include the role of personal narratives within landscape architecture.
Prior to joining MFLA, Maud gained over five years of professional experience working within the design departments of the cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam. During this time, she contributed to ecological masterplans, the design of new public plazas, and the development of a car-free neighborhood. Her work reflects a commitment to integrating ecological principles with thoughtful, people-centered design, always considering how spaces are experienced by the communities who inhabit them.
Outside of her professional practice, Maud explores design at a different scale through clothing design and sewing—an endeavor that sharpens her attention to detail and reinforces the value of iteration in achieving balance and fit. She also spends much of her time outdoors, both enjoying natural landscapes and actively contributing to their preservation through volunteer restoration projects.
